SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Welcome to the 2016 season Angel fans! Today we’d like to bring you a glimpse of the things to come once the regular season starts. We start today by showing you what a typical LA Angels Insider game preview looks like. We won’t be posting one of these for every single Spring Training game, but we will try to make this a regular post once the regular season begins. We hope you enjoy!

Pitching Matchup:

Hector Santiago (2015: 9-9, 3.59 ERA)

Hector Santiago takes the ball to open the Cactus League for the Angels today coming off a very up-and-down season in 2015. Hector was brilliant through the first half of the season, as his season ERA was as low as 2.30 through July 20. His brilliant first half earned him his first career All-Star appearance, but as the season wore on into the “dog days” of August, Santiago began to wear down as well. Hector posted a 5.75 ERA over his final 14 starts of the 2015 season. He’ll be hoping for a little more endurance as the 2016 season wears on.

Samardzija’s lone season on the South Side of Chicago wasn’t exactly kind to him. Samardzija got off to a rough start to the 2015 season and was never able to really recover. While he proved durable making 32 starts and throwing 214 innings, he also gave up career highs in hits (228) and home runs (29) leading to a career high 118 earned runs allowed. Samardzija will be hoping a new start in San Francisco will allow him to regain the form that led him to successes earlier in his career both on the North Side of Chicago and in Oakland.
