After battling neck stiffness and velocity issues through most of spring training, Weaver did not make his season debut until the Angels played their 6th game of the season on April 10. Weaver was worth the wait that day however as he held the Rangers to just 1 run in 6 innings to take the victory. His last time out did not go as well however, as Weaver gave up 4 runs on 8 hits over just 4 1/3 innings on Saturday in Minnesota. He took a no-decision in a game the Angels eventually lost 6-4.

John Danks (0-2, 7.94 ERA)

Once considered one of the White Sox top young arms, Danks has struggled through the last few seasons and lost a career-high 15 games in 2015. His struggles have continued to open the 2016 season as through two starts he’s given up 10 earned runs in just 11 1/3 innings and has lost both of his starts so far. In his last time out in Tampa Bay on Saturday, he gave up 5 runs on 6 hits over 6 1/3 innings to take the loss in a game the White Sox lost 7-2. He was however optimistic coming out of that game, saying he threw the ball better than he had in his first start.

Game Notes

  • Weaver has good numbers against all seven White Sox hitters who have more than six at-bats against him. Melky Cabrera has the most at-bats against Weaver and is 4-for-28.
  • Mike Trout is 0-for-8 with four strikeouts and two walks against Danks.
  • Danks, in his 10th season with the White Sox, needs three strikeouts to pass Gary Peters‘ 1,098 for the sixth-most in franchise history.
