Young has had a bit of a roller coaster season so far over his first four starts. He’s had two solid performances at home, but two very shaky performances on the road. He gave up 6 runs on 9 hits in 4 2/3 innings in Houston on April 11, then followed that up by giving up 4 runs on 8 hits in 4 innings in Oakland on April 16. He bounced back nicely at home in his last start Friday however, as he held Baltimore to 2 runs on 4 hits in 6 innings while striking out 10 to take his first victory in a game the Royals won 4-2.

Tropeano has been quite a boost to the Angel rotation since taking over for the injured Andrew Heaney. Tropeano has given up just 3 earned runs over 16 innings in his 3 starts so far. In his last start Friday to open the Angels’ brief 6-game homestand, Tropeano gave up a couple of first-inning runs but surrendered no more in a total of 5 1/3 innings, but he would take a no-decision in a game the Angels eventually lost 5-2.

Game Notes

  • The Angels’ broadcast Wednesday will air on KCOP, instead of FOX Sports West, because of the Anaheim Ducks playoff game.
  • Albert Pujols entered Tuesday batting .319 (98-for-307) with 22 HR and 67 RBI in 80 career games against the Royals. Mike Trout has hit safely in 11 straight games against the Royals, with six HRs and 11 RBIs.
  • Angels reliever Huston Street is one save away from tying Jose Mesa (321) for 17th on the all-time list.
