Gausman has been quite solid for the Orioles so far this season, but he is coming off his worst outing of the season so far. His last outing was Sunday against Detroit and in that game he gave up 4 runs on 10 hits in just 5 innings. He did take a no-decision, but the Orioles still eventually lost the game 6-5.

Matt Shoemaker (2-5, 8.49 ERA)

It’s been quite a struggle for Shoemaker so far in 2016, but with the Angels still dealing with a number of significant injuries to their starting rotation they must continue to rely on Shoemaker and hope he can get things straightened out soon. In his last start Monday at Dodger Stadium he put together his best start since early April as he held the Dodgers to 3 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings and took the victory as the Angels won the game 7-6.

Game Notes

  • Orioles right fielder Mark Trumbo is making a homecoming trip to Angel Stadium this weekend. The Anaheim native was drafted by his hometown Angels in 2004 and is expecting about 40 friends and family at each game this series. In four seasons with the Angels, Trumbo hit .250 with 95 home runs in 460 games and was an American League All-Star in 2012. “Mark had a terrific couple seasons with us,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. “You know the power’s there, he’s having a terrific season and he’s a great fit over there for those guys.”
  • Angels third baseman Yunel Escobar is 6-for-10 lifetime against Gausman, with one double and one RBI.
  • Orioles slugger Pedro Alvarez is expected to return to the lineup after not starting Friday against left-hander Hector Santiago. Alvarez has hit safely in six of his last 11 games, with five RBIs in that span.
