Chacin will be making his 3rd start for the Angels tonight since being acquired from Atlanta on May 11. He put up a solid Angel debut in Seattle on May 14, but struggled in his Angel Stadium debut against the Dodgers his last time out Thursday. After two wild pitches led to a 1st inning run, he settled down for the next 3 innings, but ran into trouble he couldn’t get out of in the 5th. In the end he was charged with 4 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks in just 4 1/3 innings. Fortunately the Angel offense was able to overcome those 4 runs and win the game 7-4, but Chacin got a no-decision since he failed to complete 5 innings.

Martin Perez (1-4, 3.48 ERA)

Although his win-loss record doesn’t look very good, Perez has been maybe the Rangers’ most consistent starter so far this season. He has posted a quality start in 8 of his 9 starts so far, but just hasn’t gotten much run support from the Ranger offense. Case & point – Perez is 0-2 in May despite a 2.59 ERA for the month. Perez’s last outing was Wednesday in Oakland, and in that game he held the A’s to 4 runs on 8 hits over 7 innings, but took the loss in a game the Rangers dropped 8-1.

Game Notes

  • Perez is 1-2 with a 2.65 ERA against the Angels in five starts and one relief appearance. Chacin will be making his first career appearance against the Rangers.
  • Angels right fielder Kole Calhoun got his first day off of the season Monday, pushing Mike Trout to the No. 2 spot in the lineup for the second time this year.
  • Angels manager Mike Scioscia said he would like to give Trout a start at designated hitter this series after rolling his right ankle rounding third base Sunday.
