The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner has faced quite a struggle so far in the 2016 campaign. He’s only managed to post quality starts in 3 of his 10 starts so far, and it’s really been a struggle of late for him as he’s allowed 5 or more earned runs in 3 of his last 5 outings. His last start was particularly ugly as he allowed 7 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings to Texas in a game the Astros dropped 9-2.

Jered Weaver (4-3, 5.33 ERA)

While Weaver has had an up & down season so far for the Angels, he has managed to turn in back-to-back solid performances over his last two starts. He’s gone 7 innings in each of his last two starts and after allowing 4 runs (3 earned) to the Dodgers on May 17, he held the Orioles to just 2 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings his last time out on Sunday. In that game Weaver earned his 4th victory as the season as the Angels won the game 10-2.

Game Notes

  • The Astros will keep an eye out for Angels designated hitter Albert Pujols, whose 51 career home runs against Houston are the most all-time against the franchise. In 2015, five of his 14 hits against Houston were home runs. On Friday night, Pujols hit home run No. 570 to pass Rafael Palmeiro on the all-time list.
  • Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is batting .345 in 29 career at-bats vs. Weaver.
  • Angels center fielder Mike Trout has hit .323 in 31 career at-bats vs. Keuchel.
