Bumped up a day due to Nick Tropeano being scratched from his normal start due to an undisclosed ailment, Chacin will take the ball for the Angels today on normal rest thanks to the off-day on Thursday. Chacin is coming off one of the best starts of his career as on Monday he held the Tigers to 1 run on 4 hits in a complete game performance that saw him strike out 10 batters and take the victory in a game the Angels won 5-1.

Outside of a rough outing on May 14, Locke is coming off an very good month of May as he posted at least a quality start in every start in the month other than the May 14 outing. His last outing was the best of his young career as he tossed a complete game shutout Monday in Miami, holding the Marlins to just 3 hits in a game the Pirates won 10-0.

Game Notes

  • After being hit by pitches on Thursday againat Miami, Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli, shortstop Jordy Mercer and infielder David Freese were all out of the lineup on Friday. The team is evaluating Cervelli’s foot injury, Mercer’s elbow injury and Freese’s hand injury.
  • Mike Trout has a .353 career batting average in June (144-for-408). That’s the highest since 1946, among players with at least 400 plate appearances this month. Behind him are Jackie Robinson (.346), Tony Gwynn (.344), Nomar Garciaparra (.342) and Ted Williams (.339).
