Huff will be making his Angels and 2016 season debut this evening as a spot starter in place of Nick Tropeano, who was placed on the 15-day DL with shoulder soreness late last week. Huff joined the Angels on a minor-league contract in early May and has pitched to an 0-1 record and 5.40 ERA in 3 AAA starts for the Salt Lake Bees since.

Pineda, who really struggled through the month of May posting a 7.52 ERA over 26 1/3 innings in 5 starts for the month, is coming off one of the best starts of his season so far Thursday in Detroit. In that game he held the Tigers to 1 run on 7 hits over 5 2/3 innings, but took the no-decision even though the Yankees won the game 5-4.

Game Notes

  • Pineda ranks fourth in the American League with a 10.22 K/9 ratio, but the Angels have had no trouble making contact this year. The Angels have struck out 340 times, the lowest mark in the Major Leagues.
  • Huff had a health scare at Yankee Stadium in 2010, when pitching for the Indians. Alex Rodriguez ripped a line drive off his head. He was carted off the field and later visited by Rodriguez at the hospital.
  • The Yankees will continue Hope Week, an enterprise dedicated to assisting those in the community involved in outreach. On Monday, former closer Mariano Rivera joined Brett Gardner, Brian McCann, Nick Goody and Chase Headley to help a local boy and his organization, Stars for Cars, which assists the USO.
