Bauer started the year pitching out of the Indians’ bullpen, but was put back into the rotation on April 30. Since then he’s pitched to a 3-2 record with a 3.67 ERA in 49 innings over 8 starts. His last start Monday in Seattle was one of the best of his young career as he held the Mariners to just 1 run on 5 hits over 7 2/3 innings, striking out 10 in the process. The Indians won the game 3-1 to give Bauer his 4th victory of the season.

Shoemaker continues to be the Angels’ hottest pitcher and one of the hottest pitchers in all of baseball. Over Shoemaker’s last 4 starts he’s posted a 2.37 ERA and has not walked a single batter. Shoemaker last walked a batter May 16 against the Dodgers. His last time out Monday in New York he extended his franchise record streak of strikeouts between walks to 39, and departed the game having given up just 2 runs in 7 2/3 innings, but unfortunately the two runners he left on base also came in to score and he was tagged with the tough luck loss in a game the Angels dropped 5-2.

Game Notes

  • Indians right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall is 2-for-5 (.400) with a home run against Shoemaker. Designated hitter Carlos Santana is 0-for-5, with four strikeouts.
  • Angels slugger Albert Pujols is 2-for-7 (.286) with a double against Bauer. Center fielder Mike Trout is 1-for-3 with four walks.
  • Indians first baseman Mike Napoli, who began his career with the Angels, is hitting .319 (60-for-188) against his former team, with 18 home runs and 38 RBIs.
