Duffey has had a rough go of it over his last 5 starts. He’s not posted a quality start since May 15 in Cleveland and has given up 26 earned runs over 28 innings in his last 5 starts. His last start Friday against Boston was particularly ugly has he gave up 6 runs on 10 hits in just 5 1/3 innings to take the loss in a game the Twins dropped 8-1.

Santiago has really struggled lately as he’s failed to go more than 4 innings in 4 of his last 5 starts, and failed to complete 3 innings in 3 of those. His last outing was particularly ugly as he lasted just 1 1/3 innings giving up 6 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits to take the loss in a game the Angels dropped 6-2.

Game Notes

  • The Angels have had their fair share of injuries, but could have some help on the way for the series finale. Shortstop Andrelton Simmons, who was with Triple-A Salt Lake rehabbing his surgically repaired left thumb, flew to Anaheim on Tuesday to be reevaluated and could be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday. Simmons underwent surgery on May 10.
  • The Twins’ pitching staff as a whole has a 5.16 ERA, which ranks worst in the American League and second-worst in the Majors this season. The bullpen, which turned in three shutout innings Tuesday, has worked 222 1/3 innings this season and posted a 4.49 ERA.
  • Angels pitchers have given up five or more runs eight times in the month of June, and during the last series against the Indians, two of the three starters didn’t last two innings.
