Griffin was 3-0 with a 2.94 ERA in his first six starts of the 2016 season before going on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. He is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA since his return. His last start was pretty ugly on the Sunday before the All-Star Break against Minnesota. In that game Griffin gave up 6 runs on 9 hits over 5 innings to take the loss in a game where Texas was blasted 15-5.

Nick Tropeano (3-2, 3.12 ERA)

Tropeano will look to continue a string of stellar starts by the Angel rotation coming out of the All-Star Break. Tropeano is coming off a gem to complete the first half on July 9 when he held the Orioles to 1 run on 5 hits over 6 innings, but took a no-decision in a game the Angels ultimately lost 3-2. Tropeano was the Angels most consistent starter in the 1st half, allowing 3 earned runs or more only twice in 12 starts, but he also only managed to complete 6 innings 3 times.

Game Notes

  • Mike Trout is a career .327 hitter against the Rangers, fifth-best among active players with at least 100 at-bats. He is second with a .446 on-base percentage and fourth with a .588 slugging percentage. He is 4-for-17 with two home runs off Griffin in his career.
  • Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus has a career .315 average at Angel Stadium. That’s the 10th-best average there by an active player with at least 100 at-bats and the second-highest average for Andrus at any American League ballpark. He is 3-for-6 off Tropeano.
  • Mitch Moreland should be back at first base for the Rangers after being out of the lineup for two of three games at Wrigley Field while Prince Fielder was starting in the field. Moreland replaced Fielder in the field during the eighth inning Saturday.
