Angels Acquire David Hernandez

With a bullpen that has been suddenly depleted by injuries to Andrew Bailey and Cam Bedrosian, the Angels went out and got David Hernandez from the Atlanta Braves for a player to be named later or cash. Hernandez, 32, has been a reliable reliever in seven years in the Big Leagues, with a 4.10 career ERA and 66 innings a season since becoming a full time reliever in 2011.

In the time since then, Hernandez has posted a 10.5/9 strikeout rate, although the walks have been a bit high at 3.5/9. His best season was in 2012 when the right-hander logged a 2.50 ERA in 68 1/3 innings.

This will move give the Halos a badly needed late inning arm to cover losing their setup man and closer, and will also give the club an extra arm in the pen once Bailey and Bedrosian return.
