Angels continue to deal. Alberto Callapo sent to Oakland
Alberto Callaspo was the second Angel in as many days to be traded before the July non-waiver trade deadline.
Callaspo was originally signed by the Angels as a minor league free agent. He was then traded to Arizona for RP Jason Bulger. From the Diamondbacks Callaspo was sent to the Royals. In July 2010 the Angels reacquired Callaspo for pitchers Sean O'Sullivan and Wil Smith. Alberto was the Halos regular third baseman since posting a .691 OPS with 23 homers in 422 games.
In return the Angels receive INF Grant Green from the Athletics. The 25 year old native of Anaheim graduated from Canyon HS and was a first round draft pick out of USC by Oakland in 2009.
The second baseman has played the last two seasons for Triple-A Sacramento posting a .831 OPS with 26 homers. It is uncertain where the Angels see him playing. It could be at third base if Howie Kendrick remains with the team.
Angels will recall INF Chris Nelson to fill Callaspo's roster spot.
