Anaheim, CA - The surging Los Angeles Angels winners of six straight have a their destiny in their hands to leap frog over Wild Card holder, the Oakland Athletics.
Mike Scioscia's club has rattled off the type of winning streak they needed to if the Halos were to get back into the playoff picture. 11-1 over their last 12 ball games, with back to back sweeps of the teams they needed to beat.
Oakland comes to the Big A hoping to replay the Angels for the three game sweep they were handed last week. While the Athletics bounced back and took three straight from Seattle, they have lost starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy for the year.
In Wednesday's game at Oakland; McCarthy was struck on the head by a line drive off the bat of Angels short-stop Erick Aybar. McCarthy was able to walk to the dugout under his own power but needed surgery to repair a skull fracture. The good news is McCarthy appears to be on the road to a complete recovery.
Back to the business at hand. The A's already lost Bartolo Colon for 50 games due to a PED suspension. Will the loss of McCarthy be too much to bear for a young team that does not score a lot of runs.
