Dallas Keuchel

 Dallas Keuchel – LHP – 3-0, 0.80 ERA

The Astros will be sending the American League Pitcher of the Month for April to the mound in this one, and so far he looks like one of the best in the game. Keuchel has allowed just 2 runs over his last 31 innings, a stretch that began with shutting out the Angels over 6 innings on April 18. Keuchel’s last start was on May 4 at home vs. Texas. In that start he tossed 8 innings of 1-run ball, striking out 8 along the way, but would take the no-decision as the Astros’ bullpen gave up another run in the 9th & the Astros lost 2-1.

Matt Shoemaker Matt Shoemaker – RHP – 2-2, 5.40 ERA

Shoemaker is coming off a start on Monday in which he pitched well, giving up 3 solo homers and just one other hit over 7 1/3 innings against Seattle, but ultimately took the loss. Shoemaker posted a 5.79 ERA over 9 1/3 innings against the Astros in 2014.

Game Notes:

  • The Astros have played well on the road so far this season, winning 11 of their first 14 games on the road. Friday’s loss snapped a streak of 7 straight road wins for Houston. Their franchise record for consecutive road wins is 10, set in 1989.
  •  Albert Pujols has 46 career home runs against the Astros, tied with Hank Aaron for most against Houston by any player in history. Much of Pujols’ damage of course came while he was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Astros played in the NL Central.
  •  With Dallas Keuchel on the mound, Houston manager A.J. Hinch will likely opt to play Marwin Gonzalez at shortstop to get his best defensive look behind his best pitcher. Johnathan Villar played shortstop for Houston in the first two games of this series.
