Matt Shoemaker is going to the bullpen when Jered Weaver returns. Andrew Heaney has made his case to stay in the rotation; however, Shoemaker is also making his case. The ‘Leonidas look-a-like’ had a 2.43 ERA in his last 5 starts, with 21 strikeouts and only 8 walks. Shoe continued this trend on Tuesday night, as he blanked the Minnesota Twins in six innings behind another offensive outburst by the Halos. It will be a very tough decision, but it looks like ‘Blackbeard’ is headed for long relief duties. Here are some notes from tonight’s game:

  • In the four game series against the Red Sox, Angels starters allowed one run or less in four straight games for the first time since 1965.
  • Coming into this game, Erick Aybar was leading MLB in hitting with a .404 batting average since June 19, and was hitting .447 over his last 13 games. He got another hit tonight, raising his average from .261 to .288 in that span.
  • Mike Trout has 7 home runs in his last 12 games. He has 8 bombs already this month, tying his season high so far, which he set last month.
