The Angels and Detroit Tigers played game two of their four game set Friday night in Anaheim. The Angels won on Thursday night, pounding the Tigers 12-2 in game one. The pitching match up for game two was Hector Santiago for the Angels and Anibal Sanchez for the Tigers.
Hector Santiago was fantastic, as he went seven and one-third innings, giving up just three hits, walking three and striking out seven Tigers’ hitters. His counterpart, Anibal Sanchez was sharp as well as he gave up one run in the fourth, courtesy of Matt Joyce, who reached on an error by Ian Kinsler, scoring the runner from third, for the 1-0 lead. Angels added another off Sanchez, as Albert Pujols rocketed his 10th homer of the year over the wall in left, extending the lead to 2-0. In the eighth, Cam Bedrosian relived Santiago with one out and a runner on, and then gave up a hit to Rajai Davis, before getting Kinsler to ground for the second out. Then he intentionally walked Miguel Cabrera to load up the bases for Yoenis Cespedes. Then the Angels called on Huston Street , who inherited the bases loaded mess. He then struck out Cespedes ending the eighth. Angel Nesbitt pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth, as the Tigers went into the top of ninth, down 2-0. Huston Street came back out for the ninth, as retired the first two batters, before striking out Nick Castellanos to end the ballgame, as the Angels won 2-0 over the Tigers.
The winning pitcher was Hector Santiago, who is now 4-3 on the year. The loss was charged to Anibal Sanchez as he falls to 3-6. Huston Street got the final four outs, as he picked up his 15th save of the season.
