In an announcement that has come as a surprise to many, simply because it just isn’t done in the game of baseball, C.J. Wilson – who was placed on the 15-day DL with left elbow inflammation on Thursday – has asked the team, and gotten permission to – announce the results of the MRI he got on his elbow yesterday HIMSELF according to Mike DiGiovanna of the LA Times.

This is quite odd, and obviously has Angel fans & reporters speculating the worst – that Wilson will require Tommy John surgery that will not only end his 2015 season, but also cause him to miss the entire 2016 season as well. Given the fact that Wilson’s contract with the Angels expires after the 2016 season and the fact that he’ll be 36 years old at that point, if Wilson does indeed require Tommy John surgery his career may even be in jeopardy. He’ll have a tough decision to make as to whether he’ll want to go through all that rehab just to end up as a free agent who will likely have to prove himself on a minor-league deal somewhere as a 36 year-old in 2017.

Let’s hope it isn’t quite that serious, but it just wouldn’t make sense that Wilson would want to make the announcement himself if it were something minor and he’ll be back in a couple weeks. Let’s keep our collective fingers crossed for C.J.

We’ll bring you an update when we have it.
