After a month-long stint in the minor leagues to stretch out, Gausman was converted from a reliever to a starter beginning June 20. In the time since, he’s made 6 starts, pitched to a 1-2 record and posted a 3.79 ERA. Outside of a rough 2-start stretch on either side of the All-Star break, Gausman has been solid. His last start was Saturday at home against Detroit and it was a good one. He held the Tigers to 2 runs on 4 hits over 7 innings to notch his first win as a starter this season.

Andrew Heaney (5-1, 1.97 ERA)

Heaney has still yet to give up more than 2 earned runs in any of his 7 starts since his June 24 call up, but he did finally suffer his first loss in his last start. That start came Saturday during the Freeway Series at Dodger Stadium. Heaney held the Dodgers to 2 runs on 4 hits over 5 1/3 innings, but the Angel offense failed to provide him with any support and Heaney & the Angels fell by a 3-1 final.

Game Notes:

  • The Orioles have won the last two season series against the Angels, but the Halos have won eight of the past 11.
  • With righty Gausman on the mound, David DeJesus and David Murphy figure to get the nod at left field and designated hitter for the Angels, as they have three games in a row.
  • There’s a chance Angels right-hander Jered Weaver will return to the rotation for Sunday’s series finale.
