After pitching very solid baseball over the first half, Jimenez has hit something of a rough stretch over his last 4 outings or so. He has given up 6 earned runs or more and lasted no more than 4 2/3 innings in 3 of his last 4 starts. This includes his last start Sunday against Detroit. In that start Jimenez gave up 6 runs on 6 hits in just 4 2/3 innings to take the loss.

Garrett Richards (11-8, 3.46 ERA)

While Richards hasn’t exactly reached the heights he saw last season, he has pitched solid ball most of the year for the Angels. He has however given up 3 earned runs of more in each of his past 3 starts since a brilliant 2-hit complete game shutout July 18 against the Red Sox. His last start was however a bit better than the line score showed, as he bounced back from a 3-run 1st inning against the Indians to give the Angels 7 1/3 innings of 4-run ball, tying a career high with 11 strikeouts and helped the Angels end a 6-game losing streak.

Game Notes:

  • Jered Weaver, on the disabled list since June 21 with a sore left hip, is now in line to start Sunday’s series finale for the Angels.
  • When the Angels and Orioles played in Baltimore in mid-May, Richards and Jimenez lost their respective starts, despite Richards allowing two runs in 7 2/3 innings and Jimenez allowing two runs in seven innings.
  • Outfielder Junior Lake made his Orioles debut on Friday after being called up from Triple-A, but with Baltimore facing a right-hander on Saturday he’ll likely come off the bench.
