Scioscia’s Office: Yankees @ Angels – 7/1/15 4:05pm Pacific

Yankees at Angels

New York Yankees (41-37, 3rd AL East) @ Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (41-37, 2nd AL West)

Angel Stadium of Anaheim – Anaheim, CA

Weather Forecast @ 1st Pitch: Partly Cloudy, 84F, Wind SW 10mph, 0% Chance of Rain

Obviously we’re all keeping tabs on the strife within the Angels’ organization today and the resignation of Jerry Dipoto as GM. As mentioned in the other thread, we will be keeping tabs on the situation throughout the day and post updates as we receive them. The baseball season does however grind on, and there is yet another game to be played today…..

Pitching Matchup:

Nathan Eovaldi (7-2, 4.81 ERA)

Yankees starter Adam Warren was originally slated to start today’s game, but he was brought in to last night’s game and provided 2 2/3 innings of scoreless, 1-hit relief. As a result, Eovaldi has been pushed up to start today’s game, though he’ll still be on his normal 4 days rest. Eovaldi will be going for his 3rd straight win, as he’s posted victories in each of his last two starts, allowing just 4 runs on 8 hits and striking out 10 over 12 innings in that span.

Matt Shoemaker (4-6, 5.03 ERA)

Shoemaker had his last start pushed back by a couple of days to give him an opportunity to work on some mechanical issues. The extra time seemed to pay off as he was able to hold the Mariners to 2 runs on 7 hits over 6 innings. He did however take the loss as the Angel offense failed to provide him with much support, and the Angels went on to lose 3-1.

Game Notes:

  • The Yankees had won five in a row and seven of their past eight versus the Angels coming into this series, including a three-game sweep in the Bronx from June 5-7. They haven’t been swept by Los Angeles since a three-game set in Anaheim from July 10-12, 2009.
  • Shoemaker will be facing the Yankees for the first time this season while searching for his first home win of 2015. He is 0-5 with a 4.82 ERA in seven starts in Anaheim.
  • Adam Warren was slated to start this game, but has been moved to the bullpen due to the return of Ivan Nova to the rotation and Eovaldi will still be pitching on regular rest tonight.
